Causes & Consequences of hypertension

Causes of hypertension

There is no organic cause in 95% of patients with hypertension. The blood pressure is caused by hereditary dispositions and external risk factors such as obesity, stress and excessive alcohol and salt consumption. Organic diseases or hormonal disorders are responsible for hypertension in only 5% of cases.

Consequences of hypertension

Untreated hypertension can lead to various organ damage (so-called end-organ damage). Heart, brain, kidneys, blood vessels and eyes are particularly vulnerable.
